Finance Manager.
Qualifications: Bachelor of Commerce Honours (Accounting), MCSI, CA(SA)

I completed my studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Pietermaritzburg in 2006 as a scholarship and bursary student with Deloitte and went on to do my articles with Deloitte Durban, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with SAICA in 2010. I spent the first 10 years of my working career as an external auditor with the Big 4, the early years coinciding with the Great Financial Crisis of 2007/8 which was quite instructive, and gained experience across the manufacturing and financial services sectors in South Africa, Bermuda and then in Guernsey, where I moved in 2012.

After rising to the level of Senior Manager in Audit and being heavily engaged with the evolution of financial reporting and regulation over the period, I felt the need to broaden my skillset, and in 2018 I left audit to join Cannon and work on ‘the other side’ as Finance Manager. In this role I fulfil a number of oversight and control functions across the financial reporting and management processes within the business and sit variously on the Management, Staff Empowerment and Climate Committees.

In addition to my accountancy role, I also have a lifelong interest in financial markets and, as part of continued professional development, also run my own private investment portfolio. I hold membership with the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investments and contribute my contrarian retail investing perspective as a member of the Investment Committee.

Outside of work when I am not spending time with my wife and two children, I can often be found plodding around the 5k parkrun course on Saturday mornings, I’ve now done over 250 parkruns and need to stay ahead of Richard! I am also a keen writer and from time to time I may get the urge to put articles out on Linkedin on some or other topic of interest (to me) or have letters published in the local press columns.
